Healing Superfoods
The workshop space is designed to assist and support each person in the cleansing and detoxification process that naturally occurs during the week.
Our diet will mostly consist of delicious local bahian-style cuisine of natural fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish and seafood (we can accommodate vegetarian, vegan and other dietary needs).
In addition, we will be incorporating several healing superfoods into our diet. Super-Food is considered to be the one which contains all or most of the following characteristics:
Antioxidants are an umbrella name for many substances that retard the body's normal process of oxidation, meaning a reaction to oxygen that releases "free radicals" that damage cells and break the body down. Digestion releases free radicals from food. Antioxidants help prevent this and also destroy free radicals and slow oxidation, reducing allergies, heart disease, cancer and aging effects. Dozens of antioxidant nutrients have been identified so far, and there are likely many more.
Flavonoids have been referred to as "nature's biological response modifiers" because of strong experimental evidence of their ability to modify the body's reaction to allergens, viruses, and carcinogens. They show anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-cancer activity. In addition, flavonoids act as powerful antioxidants, protecting against oxidative and free radical damage.
Carotenoids are the pigments that protect dark green, yellow, orange and red fruits and vegetables from sun damage — and they work as antioxidants in humans, too. Beta-carotene is the best known — it's also called vitamin A.
Vitamins are considered essential to health; a shortage of vitamins can create health problems.
Phytonutrients (pronounced “fight-o-nutrients”), also called phytochemicals, are natural bioactive compounds found in fruits and vegetables that works together with vitamins, minerals, and fiber to promote good health.
Enzymes are actually the catalytic 'sparks of life' in living beings. They not only digest, transport, and transform nutrients but also literally conduct energy to the cells, tissues, and systems of living organisms. Even taking a simple breath requires enzymatic activity. Many vitamins and minerals are really co-enzymes that assist other enzymes to carry out their functions of life.
Açai (ah-sigh-ee) - This berry is 100% all natural and it is harvested naturally from the depths of the rainforests of Brazil, by the people who have been using it for thousands of years. The locals refer to it as “The Tree of Life”.
This is the only super berry on the market that has everything that you need, naturally from only the berry itself. It packs Vitamin B1, B2, B3, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Phosphorus, Calcium, Potassium, Fiber, Proteins, good fatty acids such as Omega 6 and Omega 9. In fact, studies show that Açaí provides significantly more antioxidants than such well-respected foods as blueberries, and oranges!
Perhaps more impressive is the fact that the antioxidant concentration in the Açaí fruit is five times higher than that of Gingko Biloba, the popular "brain boosting" herbal supplement that is renowned for its antioxidant properties.
"We serve Açai every day between meals as a snack, with raw cashew and raw Brazilian nuts to slow digestion for a lasting energy and sweetened with Guarana syrup! Hmmm! Yummy!"
Guarana - Esteemed throughout the world for its ability to sustain strength and heighten awareness, guarana is a revitalizing seed that has been used by Amazonian tribal people for centuries.
Água do coco (fresh young coconut) - Considered the mother's milk of the earth, there is no water as pure as coconut-water, which is full of electrolytes, minerals and is instantly hydrating to the body. It has the same electrolytic balance as we have in our own blood and is so clean, it can actually be put directly into the bloodstream.
"You could drink as many times as You wish while you stay in Brazil as a compliment of Gaia and our staff!"
Papaya - Called "the fruit of the angels" by Christopher Columbus, deliciously sweet and soft, this fruit is a rich source of antioxidant nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fiber but most importantly digestive enzymes. Papaya is one of nature’s most abundant sources of plant enzymes and other important phytonutrients.
"You will be served fresh papaya at every meal, which could act as your personal enzyme bank advisors to re-vitalize and ease your digestion!"
